The Old Constitution House Tavern is located in Windsor, Vt. and is the birthplace of the Vermont Republic. It was built around 1750; in January 1777, it was operated as a tavern by Elijah West. In January 1777, Vermont representatives met in Westminster and declared independence from the colonies that had claims to its land — Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York.
